  • Strategic alliance with HP and BASF to develop new applications and expand digital manufacturing along the entire value chain
  • OECHSLER production with BASF polypropylene and polyurethane on
  • HP Jet Fusion 5200 3D Printers offer great innovation, cost efficiency, quality and sustainability
  • New industrial alliance underlines OECHSLER's claim to leadership in the field of additive manufacturing and represents a milestone in the implementation of a manufacturer-independent development and production strategy

The OECHSLER Group, a leading plastics technology group with global presence and headquarters in Ansbach/Middle Franconia, Germany, is forging a unique industrial alliance with HP, the market leader for industrial multi-jet fusion 3D printing solutions, and the world's leading chemical company BASF to accelerate the industrial mass production of 3D printed parts in the plastics sector. Under the terms of the recently announced cooperation, the three companies will work together across the entire value chain, from new product development to the production of finished parts. The focus is on the joint development of innovative applications with market-leading customers in the automotive, household, medical and other industries to realize the full potential of additive manufacturing with novel product designs.

For this purpose, OECHSLER has installed a fleet of industrial 3D printers of the type HP Jet Fusion 5200 at its plant in Ansbach, Germany. This gives customers in all industries access to 3D printed parts that can be designed faster, produced more cost-effectively and sustainably than ever before and in higher volumes. The partners will each contribute their specific expertise: HP will provide the 3D printers and BASF will supply novel plastics optimized for additive production processes, such as the first sustainable polypropylene HP 3D High Reusability Polypropylene (PP) and the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) ULTRASINT™. With its outstanding competence in additive manufacturing, OECHSLER guarantees flexible, innovative, and reliable production on its HP Jet Fusion 5200 3D Printers.

"Our competence in Additive Manufacturing, which we have built up over the past years, is taking on a new quality by joining forces with the undisputed technology leader HP and our long-standing materials partner BASF. This partnership brings us a big step closer to a decisive strategic goal of the OECHSLER Group: to expand our manufacturer-independent production strategy and the series production of 3D printed parts, thus underpinning our claim to leadership in Additive Manufacturing," explained Dr. Claudius M. Kozlik, CEO of OECHSLER AG.

"The partnership guarantees the  highest product quality with optimum economic efficiency. It will enable our customers to fully exploit the advantages of additive series production - flexibility, speed, individuality, and quality. At the same time, it marks the entry into sustainable plastics production and supports the development towards a low-carbon recycling economy, which is demanded and aimed for in Europe".

Dr. Claudius Kozlik
Chief Executive Officer at OECHSLER

"The path to industrial digital production requires a powerful and well-coordinated ecosystem of innovation leaders, such as those who have come together in this new alliance," emphasized Matthias Weißkopf, Senior Vice President Research and Development at OECHSLER AG. "With the advanced capabilities of HP's 3D printing systems and BASF's materials optimized for 3D printing, we can offer a level of quality, speed, reliability, and cost savings that is unparalleled in the field of additive manufacturing. The ability to work closely together at every stage of the value chain and develop innovative new applications together with our customers will change the industry. OECHSLER brings a deep understanding and unparalleled industry experience in application design, production, post-processing, and automation to ensure maximum value creation."

The OECHSLER Group has been involved in 3D printing for renowned customers, including adidas and Porsche, since 2017. The OECHSLER Group is part of the Innovative Solutions business unit and with three production sites worldwide in Ansbach, Acworth (USA), and Taicang (China) now generates around 10 percent of the group's sales. Such components manufactured by OECHSLER in additive production processes on machines of the Californian 3D printing pioneer Carbon are used, for example, as sports shoe soles and in the form of compressive lattice structures in protective equipment for the sports sector. Besides, this year saw the start of series production of street-legal "3D printed bodyform full-shell seats" in three different compression hardnesses and colors, which are available ex-works from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur.
